Demi Lovato and Marshmello dropped their new collaboration, “OK Not To Be OK,” along with an accompanying music video on Thursday, September 10.
“It’s okay not to be okay/ It’s okay not to be okay/ When you’re down and you feel ashamed/ It’s okay not to be okay,” Lovato sings in the chorus.
In the music video, Demi and Marshmello wake up in their childhood bedrooms.
Speaking to Apple Music, Marshmello explained the collaboration with the pop star.
“So she did the song and then I got it and it was just kind of piano and that’s about it. And so then I was like, how can I create an instrumental, instruments, that complement the emotion of the song?” Marshmello told Zane Lowe.
He added, “So in the beginning it’s very slow and stuff, so I made the instrumental very slow. And then during the hook, which is the resolve of the song, I kind of picked it up with the energy and it’s kind of like a little dance tune.”
